THE EVENT - A.I.M. ART IN MOTION 2018
A.I.M for RESILIENCE

Art In Motion - Art In Motion offers students the opportunity to use Performing Arts as the prime medium to highlight a societal or cultural issue that is present in the community, nationally or on a global scale. A.I.M believes that students are the voice of our future generation and feel it is our responsibility to provide a platform that enables the students themselves to propel their ideas into motion.

It is imperative that an event such as Art in Motion can occur to ensure that students are educating not only themselves, but their schools, family and communities about cultural and societal events and the impacts that they have on themselves and the world.

This dynamic and unique event combines all facets of performing arts, including sound, lighting and props to create the most spectacular performances directed, choreographed and led by students. Students may work together with parents, teachers and their local community to create their props and costumes. Each crew can consist of up to 100 persons.

Each school has free rein to choose a topic that they feel is most important to them, with no restrictions their choice of topic. To add to the challenge for students, AIM have created some original guidelines in regard to the overall performance. It is within AIMs best interest to challenge students creativity, so we have provided a source of inspiration to ensure students are creating more than simply a piece of dance and drama, but rather more a performance that pushes the limits of their imagination and ingenuity.

This year we have two specific criteria and ask schools to incorporate the attribute Resilience as part of their overall performance and also that they incorporate a physical ‘box’ as part of their overall performance. There are no restrictions nor barriers on how one uses the criteria however, the more creative and inspiring the attribute Resilience and the physical "box" is used as part of the chosen topic, the more chance the school will have in being part of the winning top three in the Final.

Over the two days of performances in Northland and Rotorua parents, siblings, industry specialists and the wider community will view the performances created giving the students and all associated crew a huge boost of self-esteem whilst giving students valuable skills that they can take back to the classroom or into the work force.
A.I.M. is actively seeking to provide performing arts, community, leadership and academic scholarships to allow student to continue their passion outside of this competition.
